Do you have a favourite recipe that absolutely belongs on the canteen menu? Then take part in our recipe competition and play an active role in shaping the menu. We’re looking for creative ideas from students, for students: dishes that are suitable for everyday meals, tasty and, ideally, vegetarian or vegan. With a bit of luck, your dish will be served in the canteens and added to the menu permanently.
- Only students from the six universities supported by the Studierendenwerk Hannover are eligible to enter.
- Entries may be submitted individually or as a group. A maximum of one entry per person/group.
By entering, you agree that your submitted recipe, as well as photos of the recipe and of yourself (including your face), may be published as part of the competition and used for public relations purposes.
How to take part:
- Send your recipe by email to info@studentenwerk-hannover.de by 31 July 2026.
- Please include a photo and detailed instructions for 4 people (we will scale up the quantities later).
- Write a short story or personal explanation as to why this particular recipe should be on the menu.
Important: We are looking for original and creative recipe ideas. Simple copies or ‘copy-and-paste’ recipes from the internet will not be considered.
1. Submit your recipe
You can submit your recipe idea until 31 July.
2. Selection of the finalist recipes
In early August, a panel of judges will select the most promising recipes.
3. Test cooking
During the test cooking session in mid-August, the selected dishes will be assessed for practicality, taste and feasibility.
4. Promotion week in the canteens
In October, the time will have come: the final dishes will be served in the canteens. All guests can try the recipes and choose their favourite.
5. Vote and win
Anyone who enjoys one of the promotional dishes will receive a voting card with a QR code at the till. Participants can then vote for their favourite dish via an online poll.
6. Prize-giving ceremony
The recipe with the most votes wins. The announcement and prize-giving ceremony will take place by the end of October. The winning recipe will then be included in the regular menu of the university catering service.
