Support by Foundations

Foundation "Mutter und Kind – Schutz des ungeborenen Lebens" (Mother and Child—Protection of Unborn Life)

The Federal Foundation "Mutter und Kind – Schutz des ungeborenen Lebens" supports pregnant women in need by one-off aids for services that are not paid for in the context of other social benefits. There is no legal claim for support.

For this aid, it is necessary that counselling and application will take place at an office for advice on pregnancy and that there is financial hardship.

Any aid will be granted according to the individual situation of need. Grants may include e.g. money for a starter set of baby equipment (cloths, diapers, feeding equipment, etc.), a baby changing unit, bedclothes for children, costs for flat-hunting and equipping/renovating the flat, or for a pram.

Pregnant women who would like to make use of this aid must go to an office for advice on pregnancy and make an application there.

You can find further information on the foundation's aims, the kind and extent of potential support as well as the application process at the homepage of the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth: Brochure "Federal Foundation Mother and Child" [PDF].

Foundation "Familie in Not" (family in Need)

Besides the federal foundation, there is also a state foundation in Lower Saxony called "Familie in Not". There is no legal claim for support from this foundation, too.

This foundation primarily supports:

  • Single pregnant women;
  • Single mothers and fathers;
  • Families with at least three children who have their primary residence or usual place of residence in Lower Saxony.

The foundation grants both interest-free loans and benefits.

Conditions for a claim are application and counselling at a social advice office and establishing prima facie evidence of a severe financial hardship that was caused without actual fault, e.g. unemployment, pregnancy and birth of a child, illness, divorce, or bereavement.

If at the time of application, the requirements for support by the Federal Foundation "Mutter und Kind" (see above) are fulfilled, that foundation will primarily be made use of. It is not possible to receive support for the same need by both foundations simultaneously.

You can find further information on the foundation's aims, the kind and extent of potential support as well as the application process at the homepage of the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth: Homepage des Niedersächsischen Ministeriums für Soziales, Frauen, Familie, Gesundheit und Integration.
