Who can file an application?

The Studentenwerk (student services organization) subsidizes cultural groups consisting of female as well as male students and active in one of the following universities: Leibniz University Hanover; Hannover Medical School; University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover, Foundation: Hochschule Hannover - University of Applied Sciences and Arts; Hanover University for Music, Drama and Media; FHDW Business University of Applied Sciences in Hanover. Student cultural groups are, e.g., musical groups such as bands and choirs as well as theatre, cabaret, performing arts and literature groups. Single students and study-related group activities are generally excluded.

Furthermore, cultural events which students organise for a student audience can be supported.

Each cultural group can only file one application per calendar year.

What is being supported?

The Studentenwerk Hannover supports activities essential for student cultural activities. This could be, e.g., rehearsal weekends, concerts and events (costs for advertisement, rent etc.) or the acquisition of stage props, sheet music, promotion and other material, printing costs and so on.

If students organise cultural events for a student audience, subsidies can be made for (stage) rent, lending fees for movies, rent for instruments, salaries, advertisement etc. The Studentenwerk does only support part of the activities. Accordingly, student groups must make a contribution of their own in any case.

How is an application filed?

Before the activity actually starts, the application must be handed in to:

Studentenwerk Hannover
Abteilung Soziales und Internationales
Postfach 58 20
30058 Hannover
Fax +49 511 76-88 927
soziales(at)studentenwerk-hannover.de

The application must contain the following information:

  1. A brief profile of the cultural group as well as the affirmation that it is a student group (if the group has not have received any former subsidies from the Studentenwerk).

  2. Description of the planned activity or acquisition.

  3. Cost plan: what costs and what proceeds are to be expected (admission fees, contributions of third parties etc.)?
  4. Size of grant: What amount of money is the cultural group applying for?
  5. Account information: name of the bank, bank code, account number, account holder.
  6. Name, address and telephone number of the person in charge.

What has to be done if the subsidy has been granted?

Via written notice, the Studentenwerk informs the cultural groups of the granted amount and defines the purposes of use (activity or acquisitions).

After the activity respectively acquisitions are completed, copies of bills or receipts must be handed in to the Studentenwerk which prove that the granted amounts have been used adequately. In addition to that, the group has to declare that there were no contributions of third parties available for the purpose in question.

If the cultural group should not be able to offer adequate proof for these costs, the Studentenwerk is entitled to reclaim the granted amounts.

When concerts, performances and other events are subsidized, the financial support of the Studentenwerk Hannover must be noted in all press and PR activities. The same applies to publications.

As soon as the cultural group affirms in writing that the conditions for support are fulfilled, the allotted subsidy will be transferred to the group’s account.
