All students of Hanover’s universities automatically get a so called SemesterCard. The Semester-Ticket Niedersachsen/Bremen of the Deutsche Bahn (DB) is included since 2004. With your SemesterCard you can use all lines within all fare zones of Greater Hanover (trams, busses of the "GVH") and the local traffic trains of the DB in whole Lower Saxony, Bremen and to Hamburg. Besides the trains of the Deutsche Bahn you can use  several lines of "Eurobahn", "Metronom" and "arriva" – please consult the network map on the website of the AStA of the Leibniz University of Hanover.

The SemesterCard is valid during the whole semester including the term break.

Please note! The SemesterCard (which is identical with the student identity card you received from your university) is only valid in combination with identity card or passport. If you cannot show your passport or identity card during a checking, you will be treated like a fare dodger!

Don't laminate your SemesterCard! Laminated SemesterCards are invalid!

The charge for the SemesterCard (see page Tuition Fees / Semester Charge) has to be paid by all students combined with the registration. 

Furloughed as well as handicapped students are excepted from compulsory acquisition. Handicapped students pay the Card-price in combination with the registration and re-registration respectively. They get reimbursed by the Großraumverband Hannover (GVH = traffic union for Greater Hanover) if they prove their entitlement to free fare with a notice of the Landesversorgungsamt Hannover. The procedure is carried out in written form, a personal appearance at the GVH is not necessary. Forms of application for the exemption of purchasing the SemesterCard are available at the corresponding AStA (student union).
