Free Lunch for Student Kids

Seven percent of Hanover’s students provide and care for their children besides their studies. To combine studies, child care and the securing of means of subsistence isn’t always easy.

That’s why the Student Administration of Hanover wants to relieve student parents financially und support them in regard to their everday life, which is often stressful: Since March 2010, there is the MensaCard Kids with which children up to the age of 12 may get a free meal at the refectories and cafeterias of the Student Administration of Hanover.

In the following you will find detailed information concerning the MensaCard Kids – the MensaCard for student children.

Who?

The MensaCard Kids is available for kids up to twelve years of age with at least one parent studying at a university which is attended to by the Student Administration of Hanover:

• Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH = Leibniz University of Hanover)
• Fachhochschule Hannover (FHH = University of Applied Sciences)
• Medizinische Hochschule Hannover (MHH= Medical School Hanover)
• Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover
  (TiHo = University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover)
• Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover
  (HMTH = University for Music and Drama)

How And What?

Being in possesion of the MensaCard Kids, kids who are accompanied by their student mother or their student father are entitled to a free warm lunch (at the Contine it is also possible to get dinner) once a day (Stew = "Eintopf", Dish on plate = "Tellergericht", Drop-down menu = "Wahlmenü" with one main component and two sub-components at most, Menu = "Menü", Bio-Line, Pizza, Fries).

The precondition is that the student mother or father buys a complete meal for her- or himself (e. g. Stew, Dish on plate, Drop-down menu with one main component and one sub-component at least or Drop-down menu with three sub-components at least, Menu, Bio-Line).

Where and How?

Students get the MensaCard Kids at the main refectory ("Hauptmensa"), Callinstraße 23, at the MensaCard-desk at the foyer (Mon–Fri 12:00–14:00 h) if they bring along their student identity card or their certificate of matriculation as well as the birth certificate of their child and give their address.

Students who cannot visit the MensaCard-desk at the main refectory have to give their address at the refectory or cafeteria which they attend and hand in a copy of their student identity card / certificate of matriculation and the birth certificate of their child. They can fetch the MensaCard Kids for their child at the same refectory / cafeteria a few days later.

What else?

The receipt of the MensaCrad Kids must be confirmed by signature. There is no pledge taken.

How long?

The MensaCard Kids is valid until the end of the term which has been accounted for and may be prolonged by the certificates referred to.
