So that you can better plan how much money you will need for living, we provide some information on Hanover students' average monthly living expenses on this page. The data originate from the 20th National Social Students' Survey of the DSW (published in June 2013, data from 2012).
The following list is not exhaustive and only contains selected expenditure items that have been mentioned by many students. For example, only about a quarter of the students in Hanover do spend money on a car.
The average living expenses of a Hanover student add up to € 900, (nationwide: € 860). While almost a third of Hanover students have to make do with less than € 700 per month, almost half of the students have a monthly income of € 700-1100. Only 20 percent of Hanover students can look forward to more than € 1100.
86 percent of Hanover students are supported by their parents (with an average of € 450). Two thirds cover part of their living expenses by working. 12 percent use savings for monthly expenses.
39 percent of Hanover students receive BAföG (federal financial aid), on average, nearly € 440 euros per month.
