Mothers have a pension insurance during the first three years of their child. They acquire pension rights according to the average income of German citizens.

If they are employed liable to pension insurance during this time, they are subject to contributions. The consequent pension entitlement are added to those of the time of child-rearing up to the contribution assessment ceiling.

On request, the pension entitlement for the period of child-rearing can be transferred to the father.
