Maternity Allowance
Employed pregnant women, who are member of a health insurance, are entitled to the payment of maternity allowance in times of pregnancy- and childbed-related absence according to the regulations of the Maternity Protection Act. This counts for women being member of a private as well as a national health insurance. The regulations are explained within in Familien-Wegweiser (Family Guide) of the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
In addition to that, you will get a brochure containing detailed information at the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
Unmarried mothers who are not health insured do have a claim against the father of her child to repay the costs of delivery and other necessary expenses.
