Official Assistance is an offer of support by the youth welfare service and the Department for Youth and Family for single parents in the context of the assessment of paternity and the raising of alimentary claims.

In case of the raising of alimentary claims, the official assistant proves the amount of income of the parent liable to support and calculates the alimentation to be paid. If the alimentation is litigious, the official assistant advocates the child with the law suit. If the parent liable to pay alimentation does not do so, the official assistant also takes care of the implementation of claim to maintenance. Thereby, the single parent is released from the argument about alimentation, which is often emotionally straining.

The application for official assistance takes place at the Fachbereich Jugend und Familie der Stadt Hannover (Department for Youth and Family of the City of Hanover).
