New: Information for Refugees

The government of the state of Lower Saxony, its universities and the Studentenwerk Hannover (Social Services Organisation) would like to make it easier for refugees to start studying. For more information on this, the relevant contact persons at the universities and related links, please refer to:
www.studieren-in-niedersachsen.de/en/fluechtlinge.htm.

For any studying-related social issues and questions, you are also welcome to contact the Social Advice Centre of the Studentenwerk Hannover.

Welcome to the "International Students" section on the website of the Student Services organization "Studentenwerk Hannover". Here you can find lots of information of particular interest for students from abroad who intend to study or are already studying in Hanover.

While many offers and questions are relevant for both international and German students, still for international students, differing and often very specific bureaucratic necessities, legal rules and conditions apply.

Internationalisation is on the rise in Hanover. To support this, we would like to provide a large variety of information to all international students already here or to prospective students from abroad. That is why we have enhanced our website and added this extra section. It is structured as follows:

Before the Studies
… contains information about how to prepare studying in Hanover: universities in Hanover, university admission and language ability, tips for entry (visa, proof of financing, health insurance etc.), room-hunting, financing your studies.

Arrival and First Steps
… is an orientation guide for your arrival. It explains which formalities you must comply with during the first days in Hanover (registration, bank account, health insurance, registration at the university, …).

During the Studies
… contains useful information for the time when you are actually staying in Hanover: advice and counselling services, tips for financing, language, dine & wine, shopping, transport, medical care as well as culture & recreation.

After the Studies
… provides information about what must be kept in mind when returning to your home country or prolonging your stay in Germany.

We hope you will have an interesting stay here in Hanover and wish you successful studies!
