Several persons sharing one car – that is the principle of car-sharing as offered by Stadtmobil Hannover GmbH. The limited company provides cars that can be used corresponding to need. Stadtmobil only costs something when you are actually driving; there a just marginal fixed costs. Accordingly, car-sharing often is cheaper than owning and maintaining a car by oneself. One Stadtmobil replaces five up to ten privately owned cars – that’s really ecological, as significantly fewer cars have to be produced and disposed of. For Stadtmobil-users in the region of Hanover, more than 150 vehicles are available. The offer ranges from subcompacts up to vans and transporters. Stadtmobil-users can also use more than 2 000 cars in whole Germany.

Students with a SemesterCard can make a HANNOVERmobil-contract with the GVH (= traffic union for Greater Hanover) that costs 7.95 € per month. Apart from a voucher for the BahnCard 25 the access to the automatic use of Stadtmobil on a basic rate and the cashless use of "Hallo Taxi 3811" with a discount of 20 percent is also granted. All other fees are accounted for and you just have to pay the regular time- and kilometre-costs when using a car.

If you want to become Stadtmobil-user via HANNOVERmobil you must pocket your identity card or passport including registration card, driving licence and SemesterCard and go to the "üstra Service Center City" (Karmarschstraße 30–32) and make an according contract. By conclusion of the contract until the 10th of the actual month, the use of HANNOVERmobil begins at the first day of the following month.
