You must register within seven days at the aliens department or the residents' registration office respectively. You must give a permanent address there. If you haven' t found a steady place to live, you must give a temporary address. You have to inform the office when you move, accordingly.

Under certain conditions it is possible to comply with the formalities that are necessary for getting a residence permit. For this it is inevitable to make an appointment. If you just want to register, there is no need to make an appointment.

If you are living outside the city of Hanover but within its region, please contact the corresponding Einwohnermeldeamt (residents' registration office).
